NEWPORT BEACH – Do you have old Newport Beach maritime artifacts in your attic or garage? If so, the Newport Beach Centennial Committee needs your help.

On June 9, a Newport Beach Centennial exhibit called “From Dredges to Dreamboats: 100 Years of Nautical History” opens at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, and they need three-dimensional artifacts to add to the exhibit.

“We have plenty of photographs and historic documents, but we need larger objects that represent the maritime history of Newport Beach,” says Joanna Grasso, one of three California State University, Fullerton, students serving as curators for the exhibit.

Grasso says she needs objects that represent such categories as wartime, leisure, boat races, dredging and development, shipwrecks, and commercial and sport fishing.

If you have objects you'd like to loan to the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum for display in the centennial exhibit (which runs through Oct. 15), call the Newport Beach Centennial hot line at (949) 718-1856, or contact Marshall Steele at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum at (949) 673-7863. You may also contact Joanna Grasso via email at jgrasso1973@yahoo.com.
