NEW PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS:
CLIMATE QUEST!
Climate Quest (formerly known as Polar Bears, Penguins and Climate) is a uniquely-packaged exemplary experience offered through the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum that will help students develop an understanding of global climate change and how it relates to the local marine environment. The project will also show that actions in school, home and community can directly contribute to a solution to the adverse effects of this climate phenomenon. |
Climate Quest is a two-part program. In class, students will review evidence for climate change from prehistoric to modern times; learn the value of collecting and interpreting data and the importance of climate-related databases.
On the field trip, students will spend 2-1/2 hours on board a boat to collect data from the ocean using techniques such as observation, plankton tows and water quality testing. The program is linked to middle school California Education Content Standards.

Fee for the program: $900 (up to 45 students)
