Echoes in the Ice

Echoes in the Ice

September 22, 2005 - February 26, 2006
at the "Pride of Newport" location

"Echoes in the Ice" was a unique exhibition about heroism, individuality and endurance in humanity's quest to discover the cold harsh secrets of the Antarctic. For the first time, visual artist and documentary film director Rik van Glintenkamp used the technique of the collage to trace historic events. The exploration of the Earth's South Polar regions, its ecology and history, were melded with portraits, profiles, and personal effects of the heroic and sometimes bizarre-minded explorers. They took the viewer on a visual journey through two hundred and fifty years of Antarctic history, from Captain Cook to Admiral Byrd.
